Call For Participants – Training for Free Movement Activists

Our partners, the European Alternatives, have launched a call for participants to receive training to become activists for free movement rights.

Across the EU, European citizens are facing increasing restrictions to their free movement rights, from personal attacks and deportations to bureaucratic obstacles to accessing their rights. As part of the project ACT for Free Movement, the European Alternatives are seeking dedicated activists from across Europe for training on how to campaign against restrictions to the free movement of European Citizens.

The training will focus on:

• Understanding the drivers for hostile or ignorant attitudes to mobile European citizens and addressing practices of discrimination.
• Learning how to influence decision-making processes and complaints mechanisms at EU level.
• Developing and running campaigns and project ideas advocating for the protection of freedom of movement and EU citizens’ rights.
• Identifying and networking with effective partner organisations as well as with grassroots activists from across Europe for continual collaboration.

Following the training, to take place in Warsaw, London and Madrid in September, October and January respectively, activists will have the opportunity to apply for small grants to join the project and roll out their campaigns in localities across Europe.

ACT for Free Movement

To achieve the project goals of countering negative trends against the rights of mobile EU citizens and building public awareness and political support for free movement in the EU, ECAS will develop an interactive guide to good practices in Member States, submit a series of super-complaints against Member States that are preventing EU citizens from exercising their free movement rights and advocate for a maximal implementation of the Citizenship Directive.

ECAS’ partners in the project are the European Alternatives, Gothenburg Rescue Mission, EU Rights Clinic, Krytyka Polityczna and The Good Lobby. The project is funded by the European Programme for Integration and Migration (EPIM).
