June 1, 2016 @ 10:00 - 13:00

As part of the Civil Society Days 2016 ECAS will be hosting a workshop on free movement in the EU on the 1st of June. This workshop will be moderated by EU Swiss correspondent Niklaus Nuspliger and will be comprised of two panels:

  • The first panel will analyse the current trends with regard to free movement in the EU, including the impact of the new deal between the UK and the EU, and will discuss the main challenges for EU citizens;
  • The second panel will look into the current proposals for a revision of the Schengen agreement and their impact on free movement and on EUcitizenship and will analyse the costs of non-Schengen.

The Civil Society Days are an annual event organised by the EESC and its Liaison Group with civil society (of which ECAS is a member) in order to contribute to the civil dialogue enshrined in article 11 TEU. They offer an opportunity to civil society to take a stace on the key questions of the European project and the challenges faced by our societies.

Given the unprecented refugee crises, this year’s Civil Society Days will focus on migration and on how Europe can be made more open and adapt to what needs to be seen as a structural change.
