Since the 1950s, the SEC (Société Européenne de Culture) has been promoting studies, researches, and discussions among intellectuals and men of culture. The SEC has constantly sought to establish links with national and European institutions in order to emphasize the role of culture in creating values and overcoming world crises. The SEC’s main belief is that only the development and diffusion of a politics of culture can grant peace, justice, and freedom to Europe. The SEC investigates the different types of democracy in contemporary society in order to support the European intellectuals’ engagement in fostering ethical and political! responsibilities, as well as in nurturing the connection between our memory of the past and our plan for the future.
