What is it for me – Learning Objectives:
ECAS is organising a series of focus groups involving local authorities, EU mobile citizens and civil society organisations of the countries holding municipal elections in 2022-2025. The activity aims to raise awareness of political rights of EU mobile citizens on their voting rights and foster political participation in their host countries. In addition, the activity aims to provide local authorities and civil society with practical ideas on how to improve registration rates in the local elections in Spain (30 March 2023).

Diego holds a degree in Law with a specialisation in EU law from the University San Pablo-CEU (Madrid) and an LL.M degree in EU and International Law from the Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium). He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in EU Competition Law from King’s College (University of London) and a Diploma of Economic and Legal Studies of the EU from the Collège des Hautes Études Européennes Miguel Servet (University Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne).
Diego started his professional career in 2002 as an in-house legal counsel of a multinational company based in Brussels. For the last 20 years, Diego has been a legal expert for “Your Europe Advice”, which is a service operated by ECAS (European Citizen Action Service) under a contract with the European Commission, where he provides advice to citizens and businesses on their EU rights. In addition, for the last 12 years, Diego works at his own law firm (“GAVELS Abogados”) with other partners in Madrid advising domestic and international companies on legal matters (commercial, corporate, administrative, real estate, regulatory and competition law).
