Civil Society Days 2018: More E-Tools To Increase Civic Engagement

05 June 2018

On 24 and 25 May the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) hosted Civil Society Days 2018: Citizenship, Democracy and Culture in Digitalised Europewhich saw the participation of over 220 civil society organisations and citizens from across Europe.

ECAS and Volonteurope hosted one of the six workshops of the event, which was entitled The Digital Democracy Battle: Defend your tool to improve Civic Participation. This interactive session aimed to discuss the role of e-democracy in creating an inclusive form of policy-making.

Firstly, each speaker presented one digital democracy tool aimed at civic participation – this was followed by an online polling session on e-participation tools for the participants. Based on the results of the poll and the discussion, the session concluded that crowdsourcing e-tools should be more often used to increase citizens engagement at local level.

We would once again like to thank our panelists and the rest of the participants for contributing to such a stimulating debate.
