European Citizens’ Initiative 2.0: Design, Engage, Impact

March 6 @ 9:00 am - 6:30 pm

In the beginning of 2020, the new Regulation on the European Citizens’ Initiative started to apply, bringing substantial changes to this important participative democracy instrument. A special Conference on March 6, organised by the European Commission (EC) and with ECAS participation, will  mark its revampment and will further raise awareness on its possibilities:

Design, Engage, Impact: The Improved European Citizens’ Initiative Leads the Way to a Stronger, Citizen – Centered  European Union

At the event, participants will get to share their ideas with a number of high-level delegates, including European Commission Vice-President Věra Jourová and representatives from other EU institutions and bodies. Also participating will be important civil society actors and initiative organisers. The European Citizen Action Service (ECAS) has been invited to take part in an interactive panel discussion, during which our Executive Director, Assya Kavrakova, will share ideas on how best to support the European Citizens’ Initiative and increase awareness and engagement. ECAS Senior Manager European Democracy, Elisa Lironi, and European Democracy Coordinator, Flavio Grazian, will also lead a session from 11:30 – 13:00 to introduce the new and enhanced features of the European Citizens’ Initiative Forum, the platform designed for collaboration and expert advice in support of current and future European Citizens’ Initiatives organisers. Participants will have the opportunity to test out the Forum and give their input on shaping its future evolution. In the afternoon, ECAS will hold another session on ‘Launching an initiative: hints and tips to get you started’.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to make your voice heard and to contribute to the ongoing evolution of EU’s participatory democracy!

Simultaneous interpretation will be available in the following languages: EN, FR, DE, ES, IT, PL and HR.
