Economic governance: public consultations during the crisis
This paper examines the role of public consultations in the decisions made by the European Union in its responses to the financial and economic crisis, setting out a summary of the various decision-making procedures and the principles and minimum standards behind the use of public consultations, before examining if these guidelines have been adhered to. It reveals that the consultations for economic governance often leave much to be desired. The intention of this paper is to show that there are solutions which will allow for increased citizen involvement in the economic governance consultation process going forward.
