ECAS firmly believes that it is necessary to increase citizens’ and civil society organisations’ democratic participation in, and engagement with, the EU. For this reason, ECAS aims at fostering civic engagement especially through online instruments and offline participatory democracy processes. This will contribute to building a more inclusive society where citizens’ are at the heart of the decision and policy making process.
ECAS actively supports the implementation of the first transnational instrument of participatory democracy in the EU – the European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) – through the European Citizens’ Initiative Forum, which provides support and practical information to organisers before, during and after the process of launching and implementing an initiative. ECAS also co-organises the annual EESC ECI Day event in Brussels.
ECAS is a member of the Steering Committee of the Civil Society Convention on the Future of Europe – a platform created to be the civil society interlocutor for the EU institutions, voicing civil society’s concerns and proposals at the Conference on the Future of Europe’s plenary. ECAS is leading the Convention’s thematic cluster on Europe’s Digital Transformation.
