Malachy Vallely has been the Director-General of the Leuven Institute for Ireland in Europe since its establishment in 1984. Based in the historic Irish College (1607), Leuven, Belgium, the Institute is a non-profit organisation. He is also a board member of a number of other NGOs – LCIS (Leuven Centre for Irish Studies), EFACIS (European Association of Centres of Irish Studies) and Sportimonium. Prior to his role in the Leuven Institute, he served as the president of EUNIC Brussels and Europe of Cultures Forum. Malachy has an academic background in business studies and has specialized since the mid-1970s in the management of not-for-profit organisations – universities, hospitals, museums and the performing arts in Ireland, the UK, Mainland Europe and Africa.
