The REFIT platform brings together high-level experts from business, civil society, social partners, the Economic and Social Committee, the Committee of Regions and Member States. Its main task is to support the simplification of EU law and the reduction of the administrative burden, for the benefit of civil society, businesses and public authorities. It also works to ensure the respect for the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality, in line with article 5 of the Treaty of the European Union (TEU).
The first meeting of the REFIT Platform chaired by First Vice-President Timmermans is scheduled to take place in Brussels on 29 January 2016.
Better regulation is about designing EU policies and laws so that they achieve their objectives at minimum cost. It ensures that policy is prepared, implemented and reviewed in an open, transparent manner, informed by the best available evidence and backed up by involving stakeholders.
