Workshop on Digital Democracy and Civil Participation
May 24 - May 25
As part of the Civil Society Days 2018: Citizenship, Democracy and Culture in Digitalised Europe, organised by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), ECAS is hosting a workshop which will discuss the role of e-democracy in creating an inclusive form of policy-making. More concretely, we will explore how e-participation tools can allow citizens to contribute with their ideas to policy-making processes and potentially, engage with their decision-makers to co-create legislation, particularly with the 2019 European elections in mind.
Together with participants, we will address the following questions:
What type of digital democracy tools already exist or are being trialled to allow for the possibility of more direct participation between citizens and policy-makers?
Why are there so many types of them and what purposes do they serve?
The debate will be framed within the context of current challenges faced by the European project, such as Brexit, and issues related to citizens feeling removed from decision-making processes.
